Pre-Calculus blends the concepts and skills that must be mastered before enrollment in a college-level calculus course. Precalculus completes the study of elementary functions begun in Algebra II and Geometry. Students focus on the use of technology, modeling, and problem solving using data analysis, trigonometric and circular functions, their inverses, conics, and quadratic relations. Students who successfully complete this course will understand the conceptual foundations of a limit, the area under a curve, and the slope of a tangent line, in preparation for the formal study of Calculus. The course includes the study of (1) relations and functions, (2) exponential and logarithmic functions, (3) trigonometry intriangles, (4) trigonometric functions, (5) trigonometric identities and equations, (6) polar coordinates, (7) sequences and series, and (8) data analysis. The srerequisites for precalculus are Geometry and Algebra II and it is recommend students have a minimum grade C in both Geometry and Algebra II. Students experience a thorough analysis of all elementary functions and curve-sketching. Experience with graphing calculators is incorporated.
The following Web site, http://regentsprep.org/, provides review and practice for the New York State Regents Exams in a variety of subjects. However, the site supports high school math through trigonometry. The review and practice cover most topics for Agebra 1 & 2, geometry, and trigonometry.
Homework Assignments
The text problems assigned can be found on the Notetaking Guide. The completion of the notetaking guide is part of the assignment. A due date will be posted on the big yellow post-it in the classroom, for any assignment that will be collected. Late assignments are not accepted, unless the student is absent on the due date, and then the assignment will be due the day the student returns to class.
This folder contains PDF files of the Accelerated Math Libraries. In addition, this folder has Accelerated Math objectives listed by text book chapter and section.
This section contains files for operation and use of the TI-83 and TI-84 calculators. Other calculators may also be included as information is identified and/or becomes availabe.
This folder contains practice test items for the summative state exam that is given to all high school students in a mathematics course beyond Algebra II (except seniors, who don't test in any CST exams).
This folder contains extra credit work. There are no individual extra credit assignments. However, extra credit assignments are occassionally offered to the entire class. The are due on specific dates. There are no exceptions.
This folder contains the text notetaking guides for every section. The notetaking guides for each section are in chapter folders. Each notetaking guide has the problems assigned for that section.
This folder contains polar coordinate graphs for downloading for completing assignments. This folder also contains other information relating to polar coordiantes.
This folder contains a variety on different topics. These are files that I have developed, obtained from mathematics workshops, or internet searches.
